Vehicle engine demonstrates sealing prowess

Adhesive, sealant and coating specialist, Henkel, is highlighting one of its success stories at Southern Manufacturing 2016. The company works extensively with Ford and its Loctite adhesive products are used in the engine manufacturing process.

Henkel LOCTITE range image_tmb The one-litre Ford EcoBoost engine will be featured on the stand. It is small and highly stressed, four times that of a standard engine, but Henkel has developed a silicone gasketing adhesive, Loctite 5900, that can accommodate the increased vibration, and also a special anaerobic gel, Loctite 5189, to seal cam caps.

This application does not just serve to demonstrate prowess in sealing highly stressed joints, however. It also shows how its Loctite adhesives can be effectively incorporated into automated production when specified in tandem with dedicated dispensing equipment.

The company will also be emphasising its expertise in the supply of dispensing equipment at the show. The choice ranges from manual through to fully automatic and standard to bespoke.

Shown for the first time at the show, the Twin Rotor Pump is based on the principle of volume change, a process which ensures consistent dosing. This volumetric dispensing system is suitable for use in automatic workstations, transfer lines and in robotised assembly for precise dispensing of adhesive dots and beads onto mating surfaces and flanges.

Also on the stand, will be core technologies – threadlocking, sealing, gasketing, retaining, instant and structural bonding. Many of these processes will be demonstrated using the latest product introductions.
