  • The power to connect workers, systems, tools, and machines has proven to change the landscape of modern manufacturing. • If you’re lucky enough to work in a small company that designs and makes products under one roof, then you’re in the minority. When there’s a manufacturing problem, there’s a good chance you can thrash it out with the designer until you find a happy compromise and the product can be made. But that’s a rare luxury as we depend on colleagues in different departments, sites, or countries to get a product to market. Here, Design for manufacturing is hugely important – whether refining CAD for CAM or using simulation to predict how much a part will deform when it’s formed, forged, moulded… but what it you could avoid “throwing the design over the wall” and have the manufacturing experts “in the room” as well? With #D3D30 highlight Nexus, Hexagon is doing something new using the latest cloud technologies. In this talk, Stephen Graham will introduce the Nexus digital reality platform and walk through a Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) setup that is helping a 3D printing bureau work with their customer’s engineering team to design with manufacturing using a 3D Whiteboard in Microsoft Teams to combine generative design, build prep and PBF simulations in a single collaborative design review where the teams can solve problems together.

  • Together with our suppliers and customers we want to create a more sustainable industry with growth and profitability for all. NCAB are continuously working to reshape the landscape of PCB manufacturing for the better. By optimising resource usage, minimising waste, and decreasing pollution, PCB manufacturers can contribute to a healthier planet. Moreover, adopting sustainable practices can lead to cost savings, increased efficiency, and improved brand reputation, making it an economically viable choice.
NCAB’s sustainability strategy for the next 4 years has been derived with long term goals along with focus areas. This not only enhances our stakeholders in NCAB but supports our customer base in steering them in a greener direction. Furthermore, sustainable PCB manufacturing promotes ethical considerations. Many PCBs are manufactured in regions with lax environmental regulations and labour standards, resulting in adverse health impacts on workers and nearby communities. By prioritising sustainability, the industry can uplift these communities and ensure safer working conditions, aligning with Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being). We believe that strong relationships and transparency are key to achieving this. In 2014 NCAB started to implement strategy, goals & activities for a sustainable business (following ISO 26000) and in 2014 published its first sustainability report, in 2015 NCAB first verified self-declaration in accordance with ISO 26000 (SIS-SP 2:2013) and by 2018 all main factories were sustainability audited. Please join us at the NCAB Seminar and learn about our journey and future plans for a more sustainable future.

  • Hybrid working has been a key outcome of the pandemic. It refers to working away from the workplace 2 or 3 days a week, and it doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. But how does this affect managers?
Well some have been suggesting that hybrid working needs a new set of management skills, possibly “the greatest shift in management and leadership in 200 years” (Jo Owen, “Smart Work”, 2021: p10). This shouldn’t be too surprising as the manager is now having to balance a multitude of competing pressures.
