Thermal spray coatings toughen up

METJET-4L HVOF Spraying roller 2_tmb Exhibiting for the first time at this year’s Southern Manufacturing, B&B Coatings presents world class metal coating capabilities. It has invested in the latest thermal metal spraying technologies, HVOF and metal spraying and offers coatings that enable the performance of components to be dramatically improved.

Characteristics include increased hardness and wear resistance, increased thermal resistance, increased corrosion resistance and dielectric coatings.

As well as improve a product’s performance, the coatings can also achieve significant cost savings through the use of lower cost base materials, says the company.

Coatings that can be supplied include: tungsten carbide, nickel alloys; ceramics and Stellite.

The company’s HVOF (high velocity oxy fuel) facility is one of only a few in the world to incorporate liquid CO2 cooling. This produces higher quality coatings than conventional HVOF. In particular, it reduces the porosity of the applied coatings. In recent trials with Stellite, the company achieved porosity levels nearly 10 times better than conventionally applied coatings.

Facilities are backed up by dedicated engineering and quality departments. As well having the latest measurement and inspection equipment, the metallurgical laboratory enables product testing and analysis all to be carried out on site.
