Thinking globally; acting locally; exhibiting at Southern Manufacturing 14

Exhibiting for the first time at Southern Manufacturing, Asteelflash is an electronic manufacturing service provider that has 23 manufacturing sites on four continents yet boasts a think global, act local approach.

To illustrate its strategy of building long term and trusted relationships with its customers offering design and prototyping to volume production and order fulfilment, the company showcases its RF systems assembly capability in a case study.

ubisense_tmb Ubisense’s 7000 series uses UWB (ultra-wideband) radio, operating at 6- and 8GHz. Mobile tags transmit a UWB signal which is received by a fixed network of sensors and used to calculate the location of the tag to within around 150mm of its actual 3D position.

Paul Webster, vice president, manufacturing, Ubisense, explains, “We required a manufacturer who had experience of high-frequency RF design, but who could also build our devices in a cost-effective way that would allow us to meet the challenging price expectations of our target markets”.

“We have been very impressed with the quality of the product produced by the team in Bedford, and also with the support that we receive from them. In every way they are just like an extension of our own team,”

Ubisense has used other services in addition to manufacturing, including holding its finished stock at AsteelFlash for direct-to-customer shipping.

The Bedford-based manufacturing company has also won four significant contracts with new customers, for complete box build and which include manufacturing on multiple Asteelflash sites to provide local manufacturing to support the customers’ global market.
