Graphene use accelerates commercial heating

Graphene Diagram ECL European Circuits (ECL) this morning makes a major announcement at Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2016. Believed to be a world-first, Xefro has employed the services of ECL to design the hardware and software, and to manufacture the electronics for its heating system. Currently under trial, the company confidently expect this to be the world’s first commercial heating system using the material, graphene.

The material was selected for the heating element because of its potential for extremely efficient energy transfer. This is the basis of expectations of reduced energy costs of up to 70%.

The Xefro heating system will consist of a central heating controller which will communicate via RF signals to a hot water controller and to the various zones. Each zone consisting of at least one heater and AC power controller, and separate temperature sensors. The user interface for the entire system will be via a mobile app.

All of the electronics for the system have been designed and produced at ECL’s Glasgow-based facility. The company offers PCB fabrication, PCB assembly, test, box build and design and believes it is one of only a few companies that can provide this type of integrated service in the UK.
