Kawasaki robot delivers elastic substitute

Kawasaki_preview edit_tmb Working closely with Southern Manufacturing 2015 exhibitor Kawasaki Robotics UK, Stretchline UK has developed a process to apply a silicone to products to replace traditional elastic. The system comprises a Kawasaki RS-10N robot to control the measure and fast curing of silicone. A robot was provided for initial proving trials and development and setting up basic programme tasks. It will be shipped to the facility in Mexico.

At present the Long Eaton production line has a system utilising two Kawasaki FS-06N robots in a compact, self contained cell. Each robot works independently, presenting its wrist mounted former to an operator. A stocking is fitted over the former which is rotated under a specially-adapted silicone dispensing head. When fully coated the former moves and rotates within an heater to dry the material before returning it to the operator for removal.
