Great value machinery from Ajax Machine Tools at Southern Manufacturing 2013

Two machines setting a new benchmark for value-for-money against specification are being demonstrated on the Ajax Machine Tools International stand W61 at Southern Manufacturing 2013.

For less than £50,000, the Ajax V700 vertical machining centre with a capacity of 700 mm by 400 mm by 550 mm, a 17 kW spindle, high speed 48 m/min rapid traverse and also fitted with the high specification Heidenhain TNC 620 contouring control tops the ‘value’ charts. Indeed, at a recent in-house exhibition such was the reaction to the machine package that five were ordered on the spot.

Complementing the V700 is the Ajax Fusion AJF200 flat bed electronic lathe representing the Ajax Fusion range with swing over bed between 360 mm and 620 mm and between centre distances up to 3,000 mm. Fusion lathes are available from under £20,000. The electronic capability of the Fagor 8055TC or Fanuc control options using electronic hand wheels give ‘teach and repeat’ assisted by interactive colour graphics and dynamic graphic simulation. Manual, semi-automatic or full CNC turning cycles can be performed.

The ready-to-run Ajax V700 VMC is compact requiring just 1.9 m by 2.2 m of floor space and can be supplied with an extended Z-axis of 650 mm to accept larger parts and fourth and fifth axis units. As part of the machine package a starter set of tooling is included as well as spindle chiller and oil skimmer.

Following customer research, the inclusion of Heidenhain TNC 620 contouring control with 2 GB of memory, DIN/ISO program input was a key feature in tailoring the machine’s specification to suit the UK market. The control gives high orders of versatility for workshop-orientated single component and series production.

The 3.7 tonne heavy duty cast bed and column is fitted with high performance linear roller guides. The 24 tool magazine has 3.6 secs chip-to-chip time and the 40 taper, 17 kW spindle can be specified with speeds of 10,000 or 12,000 revs/min.
