Esprit Electronics’ tips to find the right CEM partner

Esprit Electronics’ tips to find the right CEM partner

There are many UK-based CEMs, so Esprit Electronics has compiled a list for OEMS to select the right one.

The first piece of advice is to select a CEM which covers all technologies and/or solutions required now and in the future and that will grow with the OEM. For example, conformal coating is not provided by all CEMs but if this is critical, seek one with this capability.

2 – OEMs should also ensure products meet industry standards and accreditations. Make a note of those required and consider providers who can meet these.

3 – While many CEM providers can procure, stock and manage materials and deliver the end product in exact quantities, others may require the OEM to manage the supply chain and provide materials on a free issue basis. Selecting a CEM with end-to-end logistics capabilities can streamline processes.

4 – Most customers do not want to be more than 20% of their CEM’s turnover. Less and they may feel that they do not receive the best customer service, more and there is a risk that they are too reliant on the business.

5 – A CEM should commit to continually investing in equipment, training and technology. It should also be financially stable, profitable and demonstrate growth, and be well established.

6 – In the current market there is huge pressure on the supply chain, so look for a partner who can provide options and advice when needed most. Case studies, testimonials and recommendations are the perfect place to seek these out.

7 – The best relationships are established when the customer sees its CEM as an extension of its own business. A good CEM will be flexible, quick to respond and provide excellent customer service to ensure a high quality output with on- time delivery.

8 – Finally, seeking recommendations is a good way to find the perfect partner.
