Cutting edge CNC machinery from Romi

ROMI D800SIEMENS_tmb Machines showcased by Romi at Southern 2015 included the GL-240 – CNC turning centre, which is designed to operate in mid- to high-volume production environments. It has headstock options of 51mm bore 6,000rpm (ASA A2-5ich) or 64mm 5,000rpm (ASA A2-6inch), built-in (with incorporated motor), 20hp/15kW. Maximum cutting diameter is 300mm, with a maximum cutting length of 400mm. The rapid traverse rate is 30m/min on the X and Z axis. There is a 12-station programmable turret, and the machine includes a Fanuc Oi – TD control system, with 10.4inch LCD colour screen.

The company also showed the D 800 – CNC vertical machining centre. It has a robust machine bed and column made from cast iron to support heavy loads to absorb machining vibrations in even the most severe conditions and at full power, says the company. Table size is 914 x 500mm, with X/Y/Z travels of 800/530/580mm. Spindle ranges of 8,000 or 10,000rpm are offered with options for through spindle coolant. The traverse rate can be up to 30m/min. It also has a Siemens Sinumerik 828-D or Fanuc Oi-MD both with 10.4inc LCD colour screen, Ethernet interface for factory networking.

A third machine, the C-420 – CNC combination lathe was also shown. This has fast set-up times and quick and easy programming for single or volume production runs.

It has an eight-station disc turret or three-way quick change toolpost and rapid traverse rate up to 10m/min. A CNC Siemens Sinumerik 828-D has a 10.4inch LCD colour screen, USB and Ethernet interface.
