Fresh from collecting the Plastics Industry Processor of the Year 2021 award, Rutland Plastics was also celebrating 65 years in business. The injection moulding company, based in the East Midlands won the award for UK processors (manufacturers of finished components and products using plastics materials) for demonstrating sustainable performances across business enterprise and growth, technical innovation, people development, manufacturing efficiency, customer relations and environmental concerns.

“We are incredibly proud to have won this prestigious award, especially as the company celebrated its 65th birthday this year,” said Steve Ayre, managing director, who acknowledged the hard work and commitment of everyone in the company.

Last year, the company invested in three moulding machines, taking the total number on the site in Okham to 31. Machines range in size from 50 to 1,700 tonnes, which means they can mould plastic parts ranging from 1.0 to 58kg and up to 1.5m in size.

The family business, now with the third generation in charge, serves customers in various sectors including agriculture, construction, medical and utilities.

The company installed 900 PV panels on the new warehouse in 2016 and has generated over 900,000kWh. It received accreditation for environmental management ISO14001:2015 and is part of the Made in Britain Green Growth programme.
