How to floor fatigue in the workplace – Strata Sale installs matting at Pilkington

Following a successful trial of anti-fatigue floor matting at Pilkington Automotive, Birmingham has specified Strata Sales Work Deck anti-fatigue floor matting  across its whole site, following dramatic results in a successful trial. The automotive glass replacement company has installed Work Deck ergonomic matting in its production cell floor areas.

Made from 100% natural rubber, Work Deck comprises 15mm thick, 900mm square interlocking black floor tiles which can be laid to form any length or width of area. They are hardwearing and can be cleaned with a pressure washer, connectors and bevel edges in black or yellow complete installations. An anti-static version of the flooring is also available.

Prolonged standing on hard surfaces can lead to serious health conditions such as varicose veins or circulatory problems. By standing on anti-fatigue matting, muscle movement is increased, which in turn promotes blood flow to the heart. The company decided to trial the anti-fatigue matting on one of the cells which has a high rate of staff lost time due to lower back pain. After six months, there was a “dramatic change” at Pilkington Automotive, with lost time dropping from 2.5% to 1.5%, due to a reduction in back pain and leg injuries. Across the site, the lost time for lower back pain was reduced, morale increased and there was higher productivity, reports Strata Sales. As a result, if a new cell is introduced or moved in the production area, anti-fatigue matting “is a must to put down as part of the process,” says the company.

Strata Sales is based in Warwickshire and supplies specialist anti-fatigue floor matting and floor safety products for industrial areas.
