Choose local for custom battery packs says DMS Technologies
Think the best route to low cost battery packs is outsourcing to the Far East? Think again, says DMS Technologies. The Hampshire-based battery pack manufacturer offers technologies including NiMH, NiCd and a range of lithium chemistries.
The company is set up to accommodate both small quantities and large production runs, at competitive pricing and short lead times and says it is winning an increasing number of orders from organisations previously sourcing from the Far East.
The advantages of a local supplier over the Far East are obvious, says the company, citing shorter lead time, better payment terms, local technical support, and easy to visit or audit. The company has been increasingly competitive due to lower cell costs and implementing efficiency savings within its manufacturing process.
A recent example is a solar application where 12 cell NiMH packs were being supplied by a company in the Far East. The customer was having to purchase thousands of packs at a time and pay for these packs prior to despatch and then storing them for as much as six months, depending on usage. DMS has been able to match the price and, by using a call off order, the customer now only takes deliveries as and when they are needed. The added benefits also include improved payment terms and local technical support.
