XYZ Machine Tools demo latest machining centres
XYZ Machine Tools is one of the major exhibitors at both Northern and Southern Manufacturing. This year at Northern Manufacturing, the firm will fill its stand with a cross-section of its machine tool range, including ProtoTRAK controlled turret and bed mills and SLX ProTURN lathes, through to full CNC machining centres and turning centres.
To illustrate the capability of machines equipped with ProtoTRAK, the company will demonstrate the ability and simplicity of the control on an SMX 3500 bed mill and a ProTURN SLX 425 lathe. The ProtoTRAK control system supplied with these machines is suitable for one-off and small batch quantities. Even without any knowledge of CNC, says the company, operators will be producing parts within a day. The machines feature robust construction, including solid Meehanite castings, Turcite-B coated bedways on the mills, and extra wide vee and flat bedways on the SLX lathes.
There will also be the 710 VMC vertical machining centre and an XYZ Compact Turn 52 turning centre, also with solid Meehanite castings and extra wide induction hardened box slideways with Turcite-B coatings for rigidity. Standard specification includes an 8000 revs/min 20hp spindle, with feed rates up to 20m/min in all axes. Customers can specify the Siemens control with ShopMill conversational programming or the Fanuc production control.
The Compact Turn 52 has a footprint of just 1700 x 1450mm in its standard form, yet still delivers 5000 revs/min, 20hp spindle and axis travels of 185 and 325mm (X and Z), with rapid traverse rates of 20m/min.
