In-line PCB inspection has nine cameras

Gen3systems review edit_tmb Claimed to be the only modular AOI in the market that can be equipped with nine cameras, including an optional Z-axis moveable head to precisely position and focus for varying PCB distance and warpage, the SpectorBOX is a ‘bottom up’ 3D system from Mek (Marantz Business Electronics). It was showcased at Southern 2015 on the stand of UK Distributor, Gen3 Systems. The system replaces traditional board flipping alternatives in less space and at lower cost.

Optimised for the inspection of wave and selective soldering of THT and SMT components, it is designed to inspect PCB’s inside solder frames directly from the conveyor system. In addition to the cameras, it has an optional Z-axis moveable head to position and focus for varying PCB distance and warpage. The XY drive gantry with ball screw mechanics delivers high speed inspection while maintaining high accuracy and precision, says the company. Specially coated shafts deliver quiet operation and are claimed to minimise wear to virtually eliminate maintenance and calibration requirements. The general purpose I/O means it can be interfaced with existing or new conveyor systems.

Two modules can be combined for bottom and top, simultaneous inspection incorporating up to 18 cameras. Board sizes up to 550 x 520mm can be accommodated
