Henkel highlights strong bonding for delicate materials

Henkel Review edit_tmb Henkel highlighted its 360 Degrees Structural Bonding Programme at Southern Manufacturing 2014. It also gave advice on the five adhesive technologies that form its Loctite structural adhesives range and dispensing equipment.

Loctite structural bonding allows dissimilar materials to be joined, saving weight. It seals joints and forms an insulating film to prevent contact corrosion as an alternative to welding and riveting. As stress is distributed evenly over the entire bond face, says the company, greater static and dynamic strength is achieved.

To demonstrate the ability of low pressure moulding to encapsulate delicate components, the company gave visitors Technomelt (formerly Macrometl) encapsulated sticks containing technical and application data on the technology. The moulding is a class between casting and injection, and, according to the company, is non-aggressive, cost effective and fast. The low pressures used mean that lower cost mould tools can be used and even surface mount components and lead free soldering safely enclosed.
