Cutting-edge additive manufacturing with 3T at Southern Manufacturing 2013
Additive manufacturing is very much in the news at the moment. If this is an area of interest, then a visit to the 3T stand at Southern Manufacturing is essential. A pioneer of additive manufacturing (AM), 3T produces lightweight components and complex structures in plastic using selective laser sintering (SLS) and in metal using direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) technologies. Removing the need for tooling, these layer based techniques generate fully functional and high performance parts in just a matter of days, offering significant time savings and reduced costs.
AM frees up designers to create parts in new ways which were previously impossible to build, whilst offering considerable cost benefits when compared to conventional manufacturing techniques. The AM process makes it possible to incorporate undercuts, channels through sections, tubes within tubes and internal voids, with the resulting parts being used in a range of high performance applications including aerospace, automotive and medical devices.
3T gained their third quality standard in April 2012; AS 9100 Rev C for the production of metal parts using additive manufacturing (AM). Already holding ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 13485:2003, the standard required for medical devices, they were the first AM Company in the UK to hold all three quality standards.
