3D non-contact mobile service creates scale models

Claimed to be the only, independent UK mobile service provider of accurate and responsive 3D non-contact scanning, Physical Digital showcased its experience in 3D metrology at Southern Manufacturing 2015, helping to bring products to market faster, reduce costs and production errors.

Spitfire_tmb The company uses the latest GOM ATOS and TRITOP measurement systems and comes to the customer’s site and works within its team. Alternatively, smaller components can be sent to a dedicated facility for off-site measurement, where they are scanned down to a resolution of 0.03mm and up to 30m.

Recent projects include the commission to digitise the last airworthy MkIIa Spitfire that saw active service in the Battle of Britain and to create a highly accurate scale model. The digital data was presented to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for digital archiving, for reference if the aircraft was ever damaged. A combination of photogrammetry, touch probe and 3D optical scanning was used to capture surface data.

Data collected is accurate, repeatable and traceable for reverse engineering, quality control and inspection, 3D design and CAD.
